day 93 - egg colouring

It's hard to believe, but I have never actually dyed eggs with the girls!! I just realized that today when they brought home these little eggs from the babysitters. They were so proud of their eggs. Maybe next year we'll attempt to do it.

day 43 - a crafty sunday

I had big plans today, but none of them involved getting out of our pjs too early :) I think the girls would stay in their pjs all day if I let them!
Once we were dressed, it didn't take long for Cayla to put on her tutu. I also have to say how much I love her in pigtails. I would put them in everyday if she didn't end up taking them out about half way through the day!! She's also still very much in the little Mommy mode and wanting to change her dolly's diaper.

Alyssa is in the rings and bracelets and collecting stuff stage!
Of course I love Cayla's shirt! I bought it a month or so ago now and almost forgot I had it for her. It was perfect for today, as we were going to be doing Valentine crafts!
The first thing on the list of crafty things to do was the girl's Valentine cards. Ones for Alyssa's class and than a few for the kids they get babysat with.
Alyssa sat and wrote her name on every single card for her friends.
Cayla was helping me stuff the treat bags, but in the midst of helping she grabbed a box of smarties for herself! I caught her in the act, hence the look on her face! LOL It was okay, we had lots :)
I even made sure to get me in a picture. We made a good team. Alyssa would write out the cards than Cayla would put the card, a box of smarties and two kisses in the bag and I would tie it.
The girls were making cards out to each other. I love how Cayla tried to write her name, along with Alyssa's. She made a few letters by herself, but in the end Alyssa helped her out. It won't be long before she's writing her name like a pro too.
Jason came home with flowers. How sweet. He knows I am not much of a flower person, but I do love gerber daises :)
And Cayla figured Daddy brought home the bag of brownies for her to eat!
The first craft of the afternoon involved tissue paper and glue. The girls loved it! Cayla was pretty quick at finishing hers. But Alyssa probably took two hours to do hers. Why? She's very particular and likes to do everything just right! I thought I was going to run out of tissue paper! LOL
Cayla was very proud of her heart, as was I. She did a really good job!

The hand tree with pink leaves was fun too. I love doing anything that involves them using their hand prints.
Cayla was super proud of her creation. It's funny because her hand print was close in size to Alyssa's!
I wasn't sure Alyssa would ever move on to doing her hand tree because she was still doing her heart. I think the next time I want to keep her occupied for two hours I'll give her another one of these hearts to make!
Alyssa finally moved onto her hand tree, which was a good thing as it was almost dinner!
Alyssa was super proud of her tissue heart. She should be because it looked amazing!! There is no doubt that this girl is a crafty one!

December Daily 2010 - Day Sixteen

So no pictures for day fifteen! Not sure why I didn't take any, but oh well. That night we watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Not a favourite of mine. One thing is for sure, they need to update it! LOL The girls didn't mind it, but didn't love it as much as Rudolph!

Day sixteen was a school day for Alyssa. It would turn out to be her last day of school before Christmas holidays too! More about that on day seventeen.

The morning of day sixteen, I read the girls Bear Stays up for Christmas. It was Alyssa's library book from school. I try to read the ones she gets, but since we already have so many other library books, I don't always get a chance, but when I saw this one while packing her bag this morning, I just had to read it, knowing she would be picking a new book today.

That night on the way home from work I had an idea! All week, I have been thinking of something Alyssa could give to her classmates as a little Christmas gift. I couldn't think of anything that was inexpensive and had a homemade feel to it. That is until I remembered when I was a kid and my Mom and I made candy cane reindeer to decorate our Christmas tree! So on the way home I stopped to get some candy canes. I knew I had the other supplies at home already. Although, I had to search high and low for the googly eyes! I don't like having my craft supplies in boxes still!! But without a finished basement to set up my desk, I don't have anywhere to put that sort of thing! Finally, after an hour of digging through boxes and calling Jason at work to ask him (more than once) if he had a clue where they were, I found them!

Most of the project was done by me, but Alyssa did help glue on the red noses, oh and the one black nose, because I didn't have enough red pom poms! The biggest thing she did was write her name on the back of all 20 tags! She did an awesome job too! She still struggles with the Y, and almost every time she would say, "Y is so tricky". LOL

In the end, they turned out great!!  I hope the kids and her teacher love them!

We watched Frosty the Snowman tonight! One of my favourites for sure! The girls just loved him! It's so much fun to watch all the good ole Christmas shows that I remember from my childhood with them! To bad Jason missed out. Although, we have them on the PVR, so we can watch them at any time!

Day 112 - Happy Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day! We've been celebrating it for 39 years! Wow, that's awesome! I remember when we first got a blue box. I know I was in public school, but I can't pinpoint exactly what grade I was in. Recycling has come a long way since then. And now more than ever we are seeing more about "being green".

Earth Day is typically celebrated by planting something, but it was sooooo cold out today and with Alyssa still getting over her cold we stayed indoors and celebrated in a different way. Once the weather warms up we'll dig in the flower beds!

Today was the first day that we used our "green bin". It's for recycling food waste. A lot of people have composters, but in the city it's a little hard to have one when our back yards are so darn tiny! So instead we are given green bins. I feel so bad that it has taken us this long to start recycling our food waste. We got our green bin during the test pilot in our city. I believe that was 2-3 years ago now!!

It's better late than never though, right?!? So I had Jason did it out of storage and we started putting our food waste into the little container that goes under our kitchen sink. Once it's full we'll then put the bag into a bigger container that's stored in our garage.

Here's our recycling containers, the blue box and the green bin. Our neighbours probably thought I lost my mind taking pictures of these on our front step!! Yesterday was garbage day, so our blue box isn't that full.

Today Alyssa and I made banana muffins. This is a good example of recycling an item that may have otherwise gone in the garbage. We don't always get to eat all the bananas before they go mushy, so we make banana muffins or bread!

Alyssa is always the official banana masher and apparently taster! She doesn't mind a ripe banana....LOL

Once we were done she got to put the peals in the green bin!

This is the magnet that is on our fridge to remind us of what does and doesn't go in it. I am amazed at how much does go in it!

I am happy to report that unlike the banana bread we made the other night, I didn't burn the muffins!

Another green thing we just started doing is using reusable plastic totes and cloth bags for our groceries. Again, we weren't on the band wagon with this from day one, and now that our grocery store is eliminating plastic bags we really have no choice. Again, something I wish we had started doing sooner! My parent's have been using bins like this for years, ever since I was in high school...that's a long time ago...LOL

Another thing we did to celebrate Earth Day was create caterpillars using an old egg carton! Alyssa loved painting her caterpillar!

While we painted, Cayla sat in the high chair showing off the outfit her Daddy put her in today! Usually I set out an outfit for the girls to wear and whoever is free gets them dressed. Before I had a chance to set anything out Jason got Cayla dressed. She came down sporting this onesie that says, "Daddy's Little...and a picture of a pumpkin. This was of course Alyssa's. Then what you can't see are the pink pants with the bunny on them!! Seriously what was he thinking!! In his defence he said that all he saw was the white and pink and that they matched :) I think we'll leave the dressing to me from now on...LOL

It was almost a milestone day for Cayla today as she almost rolled from her back to her tummy! She was SO close!

Here's Alyssa rockin' it to her little dj radio! I was taking pics of Cayla and just pointed the camera upwards and got some cool shots of Alyssa dancing around. For the first one she came and stood infront of me to block me from taking a picture of Cayla. She does this a lot when I try taking pictures of Cayla...maybe she feels left out!

Today is also my three year blogging anniversary!! Hard to believe it's been 3 years...see post below :) One of my pictures should be of me updating my blog late at night...the thing is my husband is usually fast asleep on the couch around now, so I'll have to set up the tripod and take it myself...LOL
